Who is Clay?

About Me

I grew up on a farm in a rural north Texas town called Ovilla, known for the Boxcar I grew up in Ovilla, a rural town in north Texas known for the Boxcar Willie Memorial Overpass and as a filming location for Walker Texas Ranger. I earned a BFA in graphic design in 1994 and a BFA in studio art in 2007 from Texas State University-San Marcos. In 2010, I completed an MFA in fine art from the University of Texas at San Antonio. My career began at a small, award-winning design firm in Dallas, where I worked for clients such as the Dallas Summer Musicals, SMU Mustang Club, and Yale University. Later, I transitioned to freelance graphic design, creating work for institutions like the City of San Antonio (Plaza de Artes) and the San Antonio Botanical Garden. Now an associate professor of graphic design at Schreiner University and a practicing fine artist, exhibiting regionally and internationally. I believe artists should be “constantly creative” across all disciplines. Most importantly… I like to make stuff.
